Despite positive earnings, Texas Instruments stock dips

Calculator and chip maker Texas Instruments is facing a multiplying set of challenges. The analog chips made by Texas Instruments are used in a wide variety of electronic systems across the world. Despite the report of good earnings, the stock earnings for the business are falling. There are numerous difficulties for the company, including blocks on third-party programming.

Texas Instruments revenue

In July, Texas Instruments reported that income and revenue both went up for the last quarter. There was about $ 769 million in net income in just the second quarter. The business reported about $ 3.5 billion in revenue in that same quarter. Company estimates claim that the third quarter will have the same level of income. Revenue is expected to be in the $ 3.85 billion range. Air traffic control systems, medical equipment, and consumer goods all carry chips made by Texas Instruments.

Stock decline of Texas Instruments

Despite the fact that Texas Instruments is reporting improving income, the stock price of the company is dipping. After-hours trading resulted in a 6 percent dip in the share price of Texas Instruments. The basis of this drop of stock price is the competitor’s earnings reports. Seems like that tech investors are more confident in Texas Instruments competitor Intel’s earnings reports.

Blocking third party development

Texas Instruments is facing the disappointment of numerous graphing calculator hobbyists. Hobbyist programmers that have long built games, programs and specialty apps for the powerful Texas Instruments graphing calculators. The latest TI-Nspire calculators, however, are locked so they can’t use that programming. This is creating controversy within tech communities because some say that they have bought and paid for the devices, and they should be able to do what they want with them. Others say that Texas Instruments has the right to prevent their devices from being used for things they are not intended for. What is your opinion?
