Dr. Laura quits because of N-word problem

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, radio industry veteran, should know as well as any others that it is easy to get in trouble when calling a black called the “N-word” 11 times on the air. Dr. Laura is now part of history. ”Dr. Laura quits” headlines have made it everywhere because of this.

Dr. Laura can’t handle a radio show

PopEater reports that the only thing keeping Dr. Laura here nevertheless is that her contract has yet to expire. The conservative radio relationship diva told CNN’s “Larry King Live” that she’s making the move because she “wants to regain her First Amendment rights.”. Once upon a time, Howard Stern needed those rights taken away if you asked Schlessinger.

Dr. Laura thinks this is really an empowering move on her part.

“I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry – some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors,” she told King.

Schlessinger apologized to employers

While the good doctor apologized for using the N-word, she maintains that she “wasn’t dissing anybody.”. Dr. Laura’s production company says they are letting her “pursue opportunities” outside of their company. General Motors and Motel 6, two national sponsors who have pulled the plug on Schlessinger aren’t dissing her, either.

Dr. Laura quits – the sequel

TMZ reports that Dr. Laura has played the quitter card before. Back in 1999, she was on the verge of a CBS TV talk show. However, Dr. Laura added the condition that she would only work for CBS if it would “muzzle” Howard Stern and not allow him to speak ill of her on his own show. The condition wasn’t held up by CBS. That led Dr. Laura to Paramount, where she briefly did a TV show. One episode featured a conversation on homosexuals and just how she didn’t like them, which made gay rights groups really angry. They called for her dismissal via the StopDrLaura.com campaign, and more than 170 advertisers left the show. Dodge left eventually for Dr. Laura.
